Brow Lift in New Hampshire

For many women and men, the effects of aging take their greatest toll on the forehead and brow area. Years of squinting, frowning, and other facial expressions can etch permanent lines and wrinkles on the upper face or even create a heavy, drooping brow. People seeking relief from these symptoms are often concerned with constantly appearing tired or stern, despite feeling otherwise.

New Hampshire plastic surgeon Dr. Jerome Sepic can help patients from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine to reverse the signs of aging in the upper face with brow lift surgery. Unlike a face lift, a brow lift addresses the signs of aging in the upper third of the face, particularly above the eyes. Since the eye area is so important to our expressions and interactions with others, rejuvenating this area can create a significant improvement in a patient's appearance and self-image.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can take years off of your appearance by rejuvenating the upper face. Through this procedure, lax forehead skin is lifted and repositioned, smoothing out forehead furrows and elevating the drooping brow. This opens up the eyes and eliminates the stern or fatigued appearance caused by heavy brows. The muscles responsible for vertical frown lines are relaxed to create a brighter and more refreshed eye area. The overall result is a more vibrant eye appearance that naturally looks more youthful and refreshed. For even greater enhancement, many women and men choose to combine a brow lift with eyelid surgery.

The Brow Lift Procedure

At his New Hampshire plastic surgery practice, Dr. Sepic can perform a traditional brow lift or he can use endoscopy to perform a limited incision brow lift. In some cases, a combination of the two approaches will best meet your particular needs.

Traditional Brow Lift

The traditional or open brow lift may be the appropriate surgical choice for patients who have a significant amount of excess skin and a deeply furrowed brow. This approach uses a full coronal incision - one that runs from temple to temple across the front portion of the scalp within the hairline, and requires general anesthesia. During a traditional brow lift, Dr. Sepic lifts and repositions skin and underlying tissues, and trims away any excess skin. He also modifies the facial muscles responsible for vertical frown lines, which has a relaxing effect similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, but longer lasting.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

Fiber optic technology allows for certain surgical procedures to be performed using smaller incisions through the use of an endoscope, a medical device that allows Dr. Sepic to see underneath the skin through the use of a tiny camera. Dr. Sepic can perform an endoscopic or limited incision brow lift through several small incisions hidden within the hairline. This technique may be a good choice for those with less significant wrinkling and sagging of the forehead area, as it does not allow for the removal of excess skin.

With this approach, Dr. Sepic repositions the skin and tissue of the forehead, which smoothes out wrinkles and elevates the brow. He trims the forehead muscles, which causes them to contract less and prevents the "scowling" appearance which is often a concern for brow lift patients. At his cosmetic surgery center in New Hampshire, Dr. Sepic can usually perform this procedure in less than an hour, using local anesthesia with sedation.
